The NMH crew landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport around 8:00 am (2:00 am, EST). After wading our way through the customs line and making a trek by shuttle to the 7ème Arrondissement at the heart of Paris, we made it to our hotel, Eiffel Rive Gauche. Those of us who were not feeling the jet lag just yet had our first glimpses of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and the golden Dôme des Invalides on the ride in.

Once we had all assembled, we embarked on our first group outing, which brought us up-close and personal with some of those world-famous landmarks. After a quick visit to the Eiffel Tower and a stop for a photo-op, our next priority was to track down some much needed sustenance. Once we had recharged our batteries with helpings of croque monsieur, pain au chocolat, foie gras, and other tasty French treats, we set out on a walk to explore our temporary neighborhood.

In the evening, following some well-deserved down time, we had the opportunity to take a sunset cruise down the Seine and to enjoy a delicious meal near our hotel. Although the views from the river cruise were obscured by a generous amount of rain, we were able to sneak peeks at beautiful sights such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre. Tonight, we rest in preparation for the trip to Strasbourg, where we will spend the better part of our trip. The students will meet their host families and we'll all settle in for an exciting visit here in France.

Be on the lookout for the second blog post, coming out over the next couple of days. Post #2 will feature a reflection from one of our NMH scholars!
